Alvin is among the city of Brazoria County, Texas which has an estimated population of 21,400 according to the year 2000 statistics. It is situated 25 miles southeast of Houston and northeast of Brazoria County. In the mid 1800s, the city was inhabited because of the bull ranches that was founded in the region. The expansion of the Santa Fe Railroad into the region made the people settle near the railroad. Initially, the city’s name is Morgan which was given by the local residents to give credit to the first settler in the area, Alvin Morgan, a worker of Santa Fe. However, after they knew that the name Morgan was already taken, they decided to change it to Morgan’s first name Alvin. In 1893, the area was formally organized and this city is said to be the oldest consolidated community in Brazoria County. Today, the city of Alvin has several schools from elementary to college. This city also has a public library, postal service, and bus liners to serve the residents of this area.
