One of the city and center of Montgomery County, Texas is Conroe. It has an approximate population of 43,400 according to the year 2004 census. It is situated 40 miles away from Houston and is commended to be one of the lovely city on the southeastern part of Texas. The city got its name from the late original postmaster and Union cavalry officer Isaac Conroe who established a post office at the mill commissary. It was initially known as Conroe’s Switch but eventually was shortened to Conroe. In the year 1880s, the railway of Santa Fe and Gulf, Colorado were expanded to Navasota Montgomery attracting occupants to settle in the area. At the same time, the lumber industry in the region is starting to boom which is why in 1889, Montgomery County were replaced by Conroe as the center of the region. From the time this city was organized in 1885, it has been a place that has both tradition and aim for its future. The community had also become a shipping center several goods such as livestock, bricks, cotton, and lumber. Today, a lot of residential structures are being built within the area that is affordable because of its pleasant weather thus making it one of Houston’s suburb. It is also the place for the original Wal-Mart Supercenter where it is located in Greater Houston. There is also many beautiful views, public and private schools, and libraries in this city.
