Kemah is a city located in the county of Galveston, state of Texas, United States. As of the Millennium Statistical Studies the area population was about 2,330. The city’s major industry starts from the shipping. Mainly a small fishing town, and develop as a famous tourist attraction. Several locals from the Houston Municipal area journey to the area and visit several restaurants and attractions that includes Kemah Entertainment District. Basically Kemah established as Evergreen in 1898 within Texas and New Orleans Railroad, during John Henry Kipp and James H. Bradford separated their areas to create a township. The area named Shell Siding next to the oyster shells covering the bay, in different areas twenty to thirty feet beneath the area. Indian burial ground was next found in the shell coral reefs. Kipp appeal for a post office, but declined because there was already an Evergreen, Texas that currently called Cleveland, Texas. The people in the area were registered and Kemah is the Karankawa term for “wind in face”, “face wind” or “facing the wind” was selected. Kemah authorized a post office in 1907 and basically is the newest tourist and recreational attraction mainly during the Kemah Boardwalk inherited by Landry’s Restaurants, Inc, that is organized in 2001.
