The capital of the Fort Bend County, Texas that has an estimated population of 11,100 according to the year 2000 census is the city of Richmond. The city’s border are linked by the Sugar Land, Texas on the other side and Rosenberg City on the other. Although this city is smaller in terms of area compare to other cities, it still became the capital of the county thus accommodating the local government offices of the region. The city got its name from a place in England which is also called Richmond. In the year 1837, the place was one of the 19 cities which are initially organized by the not so long existed Republic of Texas. In the year 1889, August 16 the community was the area of the Battle of Richmond which concluded to the Jaybird-Woodpecker War. A destructive clash regarding the political control of the county of Fort Bend. At present, the city of Richmond is handled by the Lamar Consolidated Independent School District. It has several schools from elementary to high school and public libraries located within the area.
